Twilight Star Robert Pattinson Gets Mobbed by Fans - and the Media
Tuesday November 18, 2008
Seven years of covering movie premieres did not prepare me for the Los Angeles premiere of Twilight. Fans camped out overnight on the streets just to get a shot at a good position behind the barricades lining the red carpet. And hardcore Twilight fans who were dedicated enough to spend two days waiting for a chance at an autograph, a hug, a photo, or even just a smile and a wave provided the backdrop to hundreds of interviews. These fans screamed from 4pm until 7:30ish when finally the cast of Twilight left the red carpet to go into the special screening. And one fan directly across from my spot on the carpet cried for at least the last hour and half of that... It was like the Beatles had arrived in America all over again.
Robert Pattinson was one of 17 or so cast members and others associated with the movie who made their way down the lengthy line of press people all there to quiz him on his hair, the fan reaction, and Twilight in general. Pattinson did a great job of balancing his time between signing autographs and giving interviews, although you can tell he's more than a little overwhelmed by the whole experience in my interview with him from the event:
