Evan Almighty Premiere Coverage

Monday June 18, 2007
Guests arrived two by two for the World Premiere of Universal Pictures' family comedy, Evan Almighty, the sequel to the 2003 hit Bruce Almighty. Okay, so they didn't really march in in twos but it was quite a crowd that showed up for the June 10th premiere and after-party at Universal Studios Hollywood.

While none of the animal actors put in an appearance, most of the two-legged stars showed up to take in the special screening. Evan Almighty stars Steve Carell, Lauren Graham, Wanda Sykes, John Michael Higgins and director Tom Shadyac were also joined on the carpet by a lot of Carell's buddies from The Office. Ed Helms, who plays the obnoxious Andy Bernard on The Office, even has a bit part in Evan Almighty as a reporter who thinks Carell's character has totally lost his mind. I asked Helms what makes Carell so appealing and he shared his bizarre theory on Carell's popularity. "He smells so good. He always wears a different cologne to work every day and sometimes it’s sort of erotic, but sometimes it’s sort of just kind of like, ‘Wow, it’s fresh and springy.’ So definitely Steve’s scent is his most appealing attribute." That might be why his fellow actors love him, but theaters aren't equipped with smell-o-vision. So why do audiences enjoy watching Carell perform? "Okay, fair question," replied Helms. "He’s charming and hilarious. That’s the secret."
