Monday May 7, 2007
Spidey's web snared multiple box office records over its opening weekend, pulling in an astounding $151 million (revised upward from $148) domestically over the course of three days while trouncing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest's (the old record holder) opening weekend numbers of $135 million. According to Variety, when you add in Spider-Man 3's international numbers the third film of the popular franchise netted $382 million so far.

Spider-Man 3's $250+ million budget apparently paid off with the webslinger attracting fans at a record-breaking pace in a record-breaking number of theaters. Sam Raimi's third - and final, maybe - Spider-Man movie also set the new record for a Saturday at $37 million.
