Behind the Scenes of The Prestige
Friday October 20, 2006
Writer/director Christopher Nolan admits there were one or two Batman versus Wolverine jokes tossed around on the set of the dramatic thriller, The Prestige. That's to be expected when you cast Batman Begins star Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, the man who donned a set of metal claws to bring Wolverine to life in the X-Men films, in a movie where they face off as rival magicians. Nolan joked that not only did he have Batman and Wolverine on the set, but he also had Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie) and King Kong (Andy Serkis). Read On...- More on The Prestige:

Adam Beach (Smoke Signals, Windtalkers) delivers a breakout performance in the dramatic film, Flags of Our Fathers, based on the book by James Bradley with Ron Powers.Director Clint Eastwood was impressed with Beach's performances in smaller roles, but it was his audition tape that sold the acclaimed filmmaker on Beach's ability to play Ira Hayes, one of the Marines who raised the American flag on Mount Suribachi during World War II. Eastwood said, "...He did a reading on tape and it was very good. You could see a lot of possibilities there. I hired him and he turned out to be even better than I expected. Ira Hayes was a complex person, a person who did sharecropping, a kid from Arizona who went to the Marine Corps, suddenly he's in the Marine Corps and he's got a uniform and he meets a lot of friends. He found sort of a family in the Marine Corps. He liked it to the point where he wanted to stay there." Read On...

Flicka Hits the Big Screen
Fans of singer Tim McGraw have no reason to be alarmed. Although McGraw enjoys taking on the occasional acting gig, he’s not about to give up his day job anytime soon. But McGraw did put his day job on hold for a short while to work on the 2006 adaptation of Flicka, based on the Mary O'Hara book My Friend Flicka. McGraw plays the father of a 16-year-old girl who wants more for his daughter than a life of working on the family ranch. Alison Lohman (Big Fish) stars as McGraw's horse-loving daughter with Maria Bello (Thank You for Smoking) co-starring as his wife.(Pictured: Alison Lohman and Maria Bello © 20th Century Fox)
Annette Bening Gets Put Through the Wringer in Running with Scissors
Annette Bening stars as Deirdre Burroughs, the mother of author Augusten Burroughs, in TriStar Pictures' Running with Scissors.
Bening was one of the first actors writer/director Ryan Murphy approached about becoming involved with the film adaptation of Burroughs' memoirs. Her character is the catalyst for the majority of the events in the film, and Murphy knew it would take an extraordinary actress to make the mentally unstable character believable without totally alienating the audience. According to Murphy, Bening has wanted to do a film about mental illness for quite a while. "Hers is one of the most harrowing portraits of mental illness I've seen," says Murphy, adding, "She made sure that it was always about the truth."(Photo © TriStar Pictures)
