Mark Wahlberg Stars in the Inspirational Movie, Invincible

Monday August 21, 2006
It's taken 30 years to make its way to the big screen but finally the Cinderella story of ex-teacher/bartender Vince Papale's triumph in the world of professional football comes to life on the big screen in Invincible. Papale captured the attention of Philadelphia Eagles fans when he made it onto the team after Coach Dick Vermeil held open tryouts. The film version stars Mark Wahlberg as the lifelong football fan who just wanted his hometeam to play with heart - and maybe win a few games.

Snakes on the Plane wasn't anywhere near the box office phenomenon some had predicted. Despite months of pre-release buzz with numerous fansites devoted solely to promoting the film, when it came down to actual ticket sales Snakes on a Plane did just so-so business.

If anyone had asked me, I could have predicted what Snakes would take in over its opening weekend. While there was an incredible amount of hype surrounding the film, in just casually talking to people I consider average moviegoers, none of them expressed a desire to actually buy a ticket and check out the movie. Sure, they loved the title but that just wasn't enough to get them to fork over cash to see Snakes in a theater. I'm predicting most of Snakes' money will come from DVD sales and rentals.

Top 10 Films for the Weekend Ending 08/20/06:
    1) Snakes on a Plane - $15,206,301
    2) Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby - $13,755,387
    3) World Trade Center - $10,901,350
    4) Step Up - $10,157,605
    5) Accepted - $10,023,835
    6) Barnyard - $7,581,622
    7) Little Miss Sunshine - $5,610,845
    8) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - $5,212,351
    9) Pulse - $3,519,889
