Johnny Depp Talks About Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Tuesday July 4, 2006
Johnny Depp returns for more adventures on the high seas as Captain Jack Sparrow, the pirate equivalent of a rock and roll bad boy in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, the second film of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise. This time around Captain Jack is called upon to pay off a debt owed to Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). Unfortunately for Jack's 'friends' and crew, the captain has decided he's not quite ready to turn his soul over to the devil of the deep sea.

Depp avoids doing sequels but there was something special about Captain Jack, something so intriguing he couldn't pass up the opportunity to revisit the character. "You get to add stuff and try things and get away with it, just to see what you can get away with," explained Depp. "I've been very lucky so far, and he's just a really fun character. I certainly wasn't ready to say goodbye to him after the first film. I felt like there was a lot more to be done, more fun to be had."
