"Madea's Family Reunion" is a follow-up to Perry's "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," the 2005 movie that took almost everyone by surprise when it rang up $21+ million in business during its opening weekend. Perry said he wasn't surprised by the film's success, he was thankful. "Being on tour all over the country, you see all of these people and they say, 'We're going, Tyler. We're going to support you.
