Charlize Theron Interview - "Aeon Flux"

Monday November 28, 2005
Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron ("Monster") stars in Paramount Pictures/MTV Films' "Aeon Flux," a science fiction/action drama based on the MTV animated series. Set 400 years in the future, the Earth's population has been decimated by disease. Those who have managed to survive live inside a protected city run by a congress of scientists. Underground operative Aeon Flux is sent on a mission to kill the government's leader and while trying to fulfill her duty, she uncovers secrets that make her question everything she believes in. "Aeon Flux" seems about as obvious an Oscar follow-up project for Theron to tackle as "Catwoman" was for Halle Berry ("Monster's Ball"). Both Best Actress Oscar winners decided to take big risks and headline big-budget action films after starring in indie dramas. Will "Aeon Flux" be better received at the box office than Berry's "Catwoman?" We only have to wait a few more days to find out that answer. In the meantime, check out what Theron said about why she chose to star in "Aeon Flux," her injury on the set, and doing her own stunts:

  • Box Office Report - Nov 23-27, 2005
None of the holiday weekend's new releases were strong enough to wrench "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" from its firm grip on first place at the box office. The fourth film of the "Harry Potter" franchise continued its dominance, remaining in first place for the second weekend in a row. "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" should remain on top of the charts for at least one more weekend since its only real competition will be the more adult-oriented action film, "Aeon Flux," which debuts in theaters on December 2nd. Though blasted by critics as being a waste of time and effort, the Dennis Quaid/Rene Russo remake of "Yours, Mine and Ours" managed to capture third place over the holiday weekend. Surprisingly, "Yours, Mine and Ours" wound up being the most popular of the batch of five films that were released over the extended Thanksgiving weekend.
